Mount Morris is becoming a Be Well Community!

I was happy to work for the Livingston County Health Department in addition to The Genesee Valley Health Partnership. I appreciated connecting with community members. This project created some thoughtful conversations as I discussed with some of our Mt. Morris peers about what Being well during these times meant for them. It was a great chance to learn about traditions and traditional cooking. I was thankful to spend time with Karen and Jane as they planted next years garlic crop and filmed an episode of Cooking With Karen. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Melanie prepare a traditional Puerto Rican Dish at Boriken Restaurant - located on Main St. I want to say thank you to everyone who donated their time and participated in these conversations. It was a joy to spend time with community members and families as they played outside, practiced yoga, went for a hike, used the outdoor workout equipment at Mount Morris Central School, walked to work, fished, played on the playground, got lost in a book, explored the parks, talked about their hobbies and, spent time with their pets. These conversations felt especially relevant during Covid when physical health, as well as mental and emotional health have taken center stage.

I was thankful to the health department for choosing me to complete this photo project, and found it to be very enriching - as being behind a camera is not only my livelihood, but something that funnels my creativity and fuels my well being. Below are some of the images I got to capture of the wonderful people and great business in Mt. Morris as well as beautiful areas available for hiking, biking, sight seeing, fishing, picnicking, and being active! We have no shortage of breathtaking sights, and nature trails.

Al Lorenz County Park - This 80 acre park is the hidden gem of Mount Morris - with its many new renovations making it even more accessible. The trails are well maintained and full of beautiful sights and wildlife. The county park features beautiful ponds, fishing, bridges, pavilions, grills, a new playground, basketball court, volley ball net and baseball diamond. We love exploring this park, seeing the ecosystems and wildlife, and picnicking under the pavilions.
Mount Morris Dam - This beautiful park connects to Al Lorenz Park via a trail system. With stunning overlooks, views of the Dam built on the Genesee river in 1940s, playgrounds, pavilions, a campfire area and a visitors center including free tours of the Dam this is a perfect place for a family to spend a day.
Finger Lakes Trail - Mount Morris has access points to the Finger Lakes Trail which is a 950 mile long path with many beautiful sites and camping spots along the way.

Buck Run is a beautiful private property with a creek that rolls through it. The owners have been kind enough to extend the invitation to community members to respectfully enjoy hiking and picnicking.
The Mount Morris Veterans Park is a beautiful park honoring our local Veterans. Its located on South Main St. and features entrances to the Greenway Trail.
